Meet Suzan
principal designer, mom, antique enthusiast
Suzan Hadaway’s obsession for all things beautiful started early on in her life and the creative spirit was ignited. Holding a Bachelors degree in Interior Design, Painting, and Art History; she has been able to carve out the perfect career niche. A career led by inspiration, sourcing, antiquing, drawing, and textiles is a dream come true.
Founding SHD in 2012 after 6 years working in the high end residential world., learning and collaborating with wonderful mentors, experiencing client relations, and falling in love with all things design before taking the leap to start my own business. Our projects ranging from a Modern loft in Soho, NYC to a glamorous Pied a terre in downtown Chicago to a farmhouse in the countryside of Vermont.
Suzan Hadaway lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, three sons (Harry, Hudson, & Duke) two very large pups; Hazel & Dolly Parton and a bird named Murphy. Her home is a menagerie of sorts; a blending of beauty, animals, children, chaos, and a lot of blue and white china
Design Ethos
I am an artist through and through, a lover of materials, but I am also a mom of 3, a seasoned designer and my need for beauty and function to meet is a core foundation in my process.
I try to think outside the box, reinterpret spaces, push my clients outside of their comfort zone, and lead with a trusting eye to create a home of your dreams. I find the transformation process to be the most fulfilling part of my job.

SHD is a full service Interior Design Firm, taking on projects from multiple rooms, entire homes, to full renovations and new builds. Working both in the Chicagoland area and out of state.
We begin with a detailed conversation which outlines all your wish list items, wants, needs, and everything in between. I want to know how you live in order to craft a space that will suit your needs and also reflect you and your families personality
Moving onto the nooks and crannies of the project which entails, schematic floor plans, elevations and finishes; detailed presentations will break up these meetings depending upon the scope of work.
Now onto the good stuff, all the layers that make a space one of a kind.
Lighting, furniture, and fabrics, will be presented in a curated presentation that allow the client to be a part of the design process as I guide you through selections and evolution of the home.
Budgets, contractors, installations, oh my! I handle it all in detail and with a team of brilliant artisans whom I have worked with for over a decade.
I am the designer as well as project manager handling all questions, hiccups, building solutions and execution of the space at hand.
